Interested in hearing the communities thoughts on their favourite map.
I've seen a lot of people whip on Purple Heart Lane, but personally I really enjoy it. I find that similar to Foy due - to lack of cover, you need to flank wide, and make your moves with team driven structure and support.
Ultimately, for me, my favourite is Saint Marie Dumont. I love holding that church while there's intense back yard to back yard fighting going around you, while tanks engage each other in adjacent fields or in streets. It's just specatular.
What are your thoughts?
I like Carentan a lot too. It's really nice to have an urban map with hills in it. Utah is one of my favourites but I find that it has a 'formula' you follow to win which gets a bit old. I love the chaos of PHL and Foy that are less formulaic. SMD is one of my least favourites. It's so boring to look at, and the hedgerows are annoying, and for most of the points there are one or two major chokepoints that you have to attack through, or you end up going super wide because of the fields/hedgerows and getting nothing done. It has the best, or one of the best villages though and it is wasted in that corner.
Carentan is my favorite. So much variety, so many options. I'm still discovering areas I haven't seen before.
My favorite maps are SME and Carentan so far. I love finding sneaky routes around flanks and snaking my way through urban environments. Both SME and Carentan provide a great mixture of open and urban terrains to get a little bit of both during a match. I particularly love playing as a medic following my squad through the tight streets of Carentan. The feeling of crawling through the rubble strewn streets to patch up a buddy while my BAR gunner and MG are laying down intense suppression is just epic. Spider-monkeying around walls and broken buildings to take out OP's and garri's is also a unique and fun experience.
I wouldn't say for me at least that I have a favorite map per se. I enjoy playing all of the maps since it's a pretty diverse rotation.
That being said I definitely have a soft spot for PHL since that is the first map I ever played. I also happened to get the game the same week that PHL was released so I got to experience it with whole community. Just have a lot of fond memories from those first experiences.
St. Mere Eglise is my favorite. I really like the balance of urban and rural arenas that it has.
I don't dislike any of the maps. The WW2 ambiance and immersion is what drew me to HLL, and still does.
That said, I do have a few favorites.
Utah Beach - I love the early morning ambiance and map design.
Hurtgen Forest - "the trees are shooting at me" - jungojungojungo
Carentan - it has a little bit of everything and, out of all the maps, is the most unpredictable and makes me paranoid. This is a good thing.
Purple Heart Lane is growing on me. After a match I feel like I need to wring out my socks and take a shower.
Utah Beach, Foy, SMD, Omaha if they added warfare to it.
lMy favourite maps are Omaha, Sainte Mere Eglise, Foy (Offensive)
Although there is room to improve offensive I really enjoy the mode
AA
Hurtgen Forest has always been my favorite. I'm really excited for the rework of it too. The tight trails winding through the forest is super cool and then the large gorge that flows through the map is my favorite place to have a tank or an AT gun.
I like Hill 400 a lot. It's moody and gloomy and foggy, but then it has sections that are bright and sunny. And, of course, the colors on that map are just awesome. Some parts of the map that look very real to my eye. Check out some of the screenshots and video loops I made on Hill 400:

BTW, these are all free to download and use for whatever. Aside from that, I really enjoy Hurtgen Forest too. I'm looking forward to see what the devs have done with that map. But from the screenshots they shared, I don't know. I think Hill 400 will remain my favorite for a while. Plus, I also like all the hiding places on Hill 400. But I really just love the woods. I'm a big hiker. Perhaps that plays into my selection.
Foy. I love the winter setting and the fog. It adds depth and a different metric to fight in
