The new Hell Let Loose Training Camp uses a third-party utility to import events from Google Calendar. The utility then automatically posts these events in the calendar on the HLLTC HQ home page and in the HLLTC Discord camp-events text channel.
The calendar has two bots. The first imports any new post added to the calendar. The second bot posts a reminder 3 hours prior to the event.
The reminder time condition can be changed if a different interval might work better. Just let me know in the comments below. If your suggestion, say, gets enough hearts, I'll change it. OPT and above are may post events in the camp calendar. If a lower-ranking HLLTC member needs an event posted, they will need the help of camp leadership. However, there are no formatting options available for posts in the calendar, so keep your calendar posts simple.
The lack of format options is a Discord issue.
Google Calendar and the HLLTC HQ calendar have a ton of cool formatting options. Discord, on the other hand, has very few. And, none of Discord's formatting options translate to either Google Calendar or the HLLTC's calendar. So, please do not us any formatting in Google Calendar.
What this means:
1) Descriptions must be a single paragraph with no line breaks 2) Do not use bold 3) Do not use italics
4) Do not include link text
5) Do not include copy-and-paste links
Essentially, don't do anything fun in your posts -- lol. But do use the following colored icons to indicate the type of event. You'll understand what I mean when you create a post.
Here is the color legend from the calendar on the HLLTC HQ home page: Solution
We will keep the training-schedule and the hub-schedule channels in Discord. In these channels, you can post as you have been for your respective events. When you want to post for a broader audience, post in the Google Calendar. Use your Google Calendar posts to "sell" your events and encourage members to check your respective Discord channels for more information.
Perhaps in time, things will change with Discord, and there will be more options. Until then, let's play the course, my friends, and make the absolute most of what we have.
Sincerely, GOD-sSs-END (aka David Allen Farrell) Training Camp Architect
